ORTHOPAEDICS

Orthopaedics (including orthopaedic surgery) is the discipline concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. This service is for patients with trauma (fractures, dislocations), lameness, abnormal gait and patients with congenital/developmental musculoskeletal problems.

Diagnostic procedures we carry out on our patients include radiography, contrast arthrography, synovial fluid analysis, Arthroscopy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT). We are proud of the fact that Wear Referrals is one of the leading centres in Europe in the field of Orthopaedic MRI.

Treatment of orthopaedic conditions is medical and/or surgical. The main medical conditions we treat are degenerative joint disease (Osteo-Arthritis), immune-mediated joint disease (Polyarthritis) and septic (bacterial) arthritis. An important aspect of both medical and surgical treatment is analgesia, both short term and long term. We pride ourselves that we provide excellent analgesia for all our patients (like epidural analgesia for most hind limb and pelvic surgery).

Surgical conditions treated at Wear Referrals include:

Fracture repair:

• From relatively simple fractures to complex fractures
• Internal Fixation using latest locking technology
• External Fixation using linear, hybrid and ring fixators

Hip Dysplasia:

• Triple and double pelvic osteotomy (TPO/DPO)
